Who We Are

Our home state of Nevada ranks last in regards to indicators related to child mental health. Nationally, the likelihood of children having a mental health problem has increased by 50% in the last 3 years. Our students deserve radical change, NOW.

aloeVR promotes student mental resilience through our mindfulness-building virtual reality (VR) experiences that are culturally-inclusive, trauma-informed and non-addictive. The current iteration of the aloeVR game can be set up in the counselor’s office, classroom or VR lab at a school. According to the Scientific American, over 5000 studies support the power of VR to boost mental health. We’re combining that medium with mindfulness, which has the strong capacity to boost mental health as well (van der Kolk). Our current iteration of the game takes students on a journey through a gamified Peru, where they learn research-based mini lessons from different animal peace guides. For example, a child could go to the Amazon Rainforest Basin and learn about anger and acceptance with the jaguar. We believe ALL students should have equitable access to an engaging and ethical social-emotional education to address serious negative national trends related to mental health.
